Reflecting back and looking ahead to Newbridge RFC!

After a disappointing result away at Beddau RFC our thoughts quickly changed to preparing for another tough encounter at home against Bedlinog RFC.

The boys attitudes were good in training knowing we had to step up and work hard from the Beddau game leading into Bedlinog. There again were a few disruptions in the build up with boys away at weddings... who gets married in season? However as usual we as a group weren't looking at excuses instead focussing on working hard!

The game itself was dominated for large parts by ourselves in the first half similarly compared with the Trebanos & Beddau game where again we had more composure and importantly played in the right areas, resulting in Bedlinog being stressed! Furthermore our Scrum was outstanding where it gave our exciting backs opportunities to dictate form. We played in the right areas and effectively game managed on the whole going into a half time lead, however knowing we left more out there on the scoreboard!

The second half started off as the opposite with Bedlinog growing with confidence and gaining greater amount of possession that stressed our defence also coupled with our inability to manage the game effectively. The second half became extremely tight and to their credit Bedlinog stayed in the fight right until the final whistle. The final score was 23-22 Win for us and although on balance we just about deserved the win it could of easily gone the other way.

After the whistle the boys realised that although playing well for parts and gaining the win they still have plenty to work on moving forward into the next game which is back at home against Newbridge RFC this Saturday.

On other news it was great to hear no one got bitten by the Drummau mountain beast allegedly roaming around Tennant park in the week with light of what went on in South Africa with the Ospreys!

Back to the 1st XV looking ahead to Saturday we are back at home verses a decent Newbridge RFC team who are coming off the back of a 7-33 away win at Cardiff Met. We know we're in for another battle however the boys have trained hard and are looking forward to the challenge!
