With both sides needing a win this was always going to be a tough encounter, Tondu were quick out of the blocks with a try after only 5 minutes. A series of penalties kept Skewen in their 22 and following some good ball retention and close to the line attacks Tondu were able to breach the Skewen defence for their one and only try of the game. Skewen 0 Tondu 5
Despite having a fair share of possession and territory the better scoring chances fell to Tondu in the first half. But strong defence by the back row and excellent tackling by centre Tom Kingdom kept Tondu out. The only score in the first half came from an Anthony Busselli penalty. Skewen 3 Tondu 5
Tondu ended the first half with an injury time penalty.
Half time Skewen 3 Tondu 8.
The second half saw Skewen pick up the pace and gained the advantage in both territory and possession.
A penalty goal by Anthony Busselli after 6 minutes saw Skewen cut the deficit to 2 points Skewen 6 Tondu 8.
A further Busselli penalty on the 12 minute mark gave Skewen the lead they now deserved Skewen 9 Tondu 8.
Skewen left it till the 35 th minute to seal the victory with a fine try by centre Tom Kingdom who having made an outside break on the Tondu 22 manged to break 3 tackles on the Tondu 5 yard line carrying defenders across the line for an excellent try converted by Anthony Busselli
Final score Skewen 16 Tondu 8
Overall a competitive performance by both teams, who attempted to play open and attractive rugby. Once again the youth contingent stepped up to the mark. Strong performances from Scott Mahoney, Will Pope, Cai Morgan, Morgan Meaclam and Nye Evans stand the club in good stead for the future.
An excellent team performance , although the back row of Daffy Davies, Will pope and Alex Radford deserve mention putting in a strong performance making the hard tackles and the hard yards. Overall a fine team performance however one player ensured the victory not only with the match winning try but equally with 2 try saving tackles and that was centre Tom Kingdom who together with flanker Will Pope had outstanding individual performances.
Another victory but we still need to be finishing off our opposition and taking our chances when they arrive.
We are not a team that should be wallowing near the bottom of the league. We have put in some excellent performances especially against the top teams.
Bonymaen beat us 12-6 in Bony with the better scoring chances falling to Skewen
We were beating Bridgend Athletic 12- 10 into the final minutes of the game
Dunvant held on by the skin of their ….. Teeth , struggling for the final 10 minutes of the game to keep Skewen out and conceding 5 penalties close to their line to win by just 21-17.
Nantyffyllon beat us by a try in the 10th minute of injury time, in the dark to win 21-20
We are not far off being as good as any side in the league. We just need a little bit of luck. But remember you have to work hard to make your own luck !!!
