On the 9th November Skewen welcomed old rival Kenfig hill to Tennant Park. Skewen started well with much of the territory and possession in the opening stages. After 10 minutes a clean break by Centre Tom Kingdom took Skewen into the Mules 22. The subsequent scrum saw a penalty awarded to Skewen which was successfully converted by Full Back Anthony Busselli.  Skewen 3 Kenfig Hill 0

Skewen maintained a domination in the set piece and spent most of the 1st half in the Mules 22. However, the only points of the 1st half came from a further 2 Anthony Busselli penalties.

Half time Skewen 9 Kenfig Hill 0

From the kick off Skewen exerted considerable pressure on the Mules.  After 5 minutes Skewen stretched the lead with a try from Scrum Half Rhodri Wells. A penalty Kick to touch saw a clean take and drive infield. Seeing the gap on the blindside Rhodri took the ball blind  and with a well-timed dummy deceived the covering defence enabling him to “stroll” over for the try converted by Anthony Busselli. Skewen 16 Kenfig Hill 0

Despite losing the territorial battle the Mules never gave up and on the 20 minute mark scored their only points of the game an unconverted try. Skewen 16 Kenfig Hill 5.

Final Score Skewen 16 Kenfig Hill 5

A much improved performance across the board with a strong set piece enabling the half backs to control the pace of the game. Skewen had the lion’s share of both territory and possession and though the result was never in question several opportunities to stretch the lead even further went amiss.
