On Saturday the 30th of January Skewen welcomed Maestegto Tennant Park. Our last encounter at the Old Parish was as tough a game as we have had this season. With Maesteg working their way up the table a tough game was expected.
Maesteg started well with an early converted try.0-7
To make things even worse Skewen lost Captain Ed Price early in the first half with an ankle injury.
Skewen were able to close the gap with a classic sniping break and 30-40 yd run by scrum half James Ball for a try. 5-7
Despite having a greater share of possession and territory and possession chasing the game led to a number of errors and Skewen were unable to add to their score in the first half. . Indeed the only other score of the half was a Maesteg penalty.
Half time score Skewen 5 Maesteg 10
The second half couldn’t have started worse for Skewen when a charged down kick saw Maesteg score their 2nd try 5--15. A successful penalty and a rumble try by No 8 replacement Richard Daffy Davies converted by Anthony Busselli saw the score levelled at 15-15 .Game on !!!
Skewen were able to take the lead for the first time in the game with a Mark Harvey try. Given the ball wide he outpaced his opponent on the outside chipped ahead, gathered superbly and crossed for a try . 20-15 Skewen put the game to bed with an Anthony Busselli Penalty23-15
