Pyle 13 Skewen 51
The day started with Skewen travelling down to sunny Pyle for another plate match. Skewen looking to improve on last weeks loss to Bridgend sports, welcome back a number of experienced heads to the fold including Captain Johnny Gethin. The game started with a bit of woe and a poor kick off resulting in Pyle getting the first penalty. Skewen improved from the restart, with pressure turning up the penalty before securing their own 3 points. Another kick apiece, to make 6-6 when Skewen were on the attack confident play as they spread the ball, timeless Lee Dunsford juggles the ball before bringing it under control and touching down for the first try. Conversion over, 13-6. It wasn’t long before Skewen were back, after some jiggly play, some handbags on the touchline, Skewen kick to touch in the 22. It’s back ball and a salmon-like leap from Dunsford, with a ball off the top to Kirkhouse. A bullet pass to 12, who brings Jack Gray into the mix taking 2 defenders as sneaks it out the back to Rory (12) on the loop with a big shrug of a high tackle to score just left of the posts, along with another conversion. 20-6. Shortly before halftime, Pyle answers back with a try of their own, before Skewen extends their lead with a penalty, 23-13 Skewen.
After halftime, Pyle come out with a renewed vigour and were storming the Skewen line getting a few penalties. Skewen’s line is held like the city of Troy and this time there is no Trojan horse. As they earn a penalty themselves and clear their lines. Skewen push back Pyle to their own 22 before they clear their lines right into fullback Tony B long pass to Ki Morgan who launches a counter-attack at pace. He rounds three players, uses some dancing feet to pass the full-back and touch down under the posts. 30-13 It Ki again this time silky hands through the backs leading to back vs forward mismatch Ki takes a few metres to round the giant defender in front of him to touch down in the corner. Tony B with the big kick from the touchline! 37-13. Skewen are holding strong they have been impressive all game in this hard niggly game. Skewen have a free kick 8 yards out, ball has been set up for phase play by Morgan M. Ball is back out quickly hits Alex Mogford flat as drives over the line for the score. 44-13. The game is winding down, you might as well call them the avengers as last weeks result is properly wiped. Pyle recover the kick-off, they look to get some consolation, but the centre makes a schoolboy, Morgan M reacts like a mongoose fighting a cobra, fly hacks it right up the pitch. And he’s off like a brides nightie chasing this kick after a bit of meat. It’s a foot race it’s like Usain bolt vs Linford christie lightening. Morgan gathers and dives over the line, it’s a complete rout by the impressive mighty Skew! 51-13. And it’s over, joyous cheers from the away crowd for the brave 20 in black and amber!
Da Iawn boys!
