07/09/19: Brynamman vs Skewen

Skewen started their league campaign away to Bryn Amman. The game got off to a good start with Skewen controlling territory, pace and possession. Thanks to 2 Jamie Kirkhouse penalties Skewen where 6-0 up within10 minutes.

On the 15th minutes some good interplay between scrum half Rhodri Wells and Blind side winger Sam Collins saw the wing race in for an unconverted try.

On the 20th minute a penalty kick to touch within the Amman 22 saw a clean take and drive with second row Reece Jenkins crossing for a try converted by Jamie Kirkhouse.

It was at this point that the game totally changed. Bryn Amman lost their player coach “hot dog” with a red card. It was at this point that the Skewen team thought the game was over. However bryn amman had other ideas. For the next 60 minutes the Bryn Amman 14 took control of the game restricting Skewen to a series of periods camped in their 22.

Skewen did manage to score another try making the half time score Skewen 25 Bryn Amman 21.

The second half was totally controlled by the Bryn Amman 14. Scoring a further 24 points to a solitary Skewens penalty

Final Score Skewen 25 Bryn Amman 45.

In summary a game which at the 20 minute stage was totally controlled by Skewen. A game which Skewen thought they had won and a game which 14 Bryn Amman players wanted to win. From there on in Skewen only managed 5 points to Bryn Amman’s 45.

A true example of the saying, “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings.”
