Key Policies

As a Club Skewen has a voluntary structure in place for the recruitment and training of individuals to meet the requirements of the club based upon the guidelines set by the WRU.

WRU Code of Conduct for Players and their Parents/Guardians

Players representing Skewen RFC and their respective parents/guardians will abide by the following WRU Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Players

  • Players are expected to be properly dressed.
  • Learn the laws of the game and abide by them.
  • Make a personal commitment to keep yourself fit at all times.
  • Never argue with the referee’s decision.
  • Control your temper on the field of play.
  • Do not take unfair advantage of any player.
  • Hard work will benefit both yourself and the team’s performance.
  • Do not listen to comments from spectators.
  • Co-operate with your team-mates, coach, and referee, for without them you do not have a game.
  • If you are disciplined, accept it without question.

Above all, do not use abusive and foul language

Code of Conduct for Parents

  • Do not force an unwilling child to participate in rugby.
  • Encourage your child to play by the laws of the game.
  • Teach your child the importance of effort and teamwork.
  • Help your child to improve skills and to learn a positive attitude to the game.
  • Set an example to your child.
  • Applaud good play by our team and by members of the opposing team.
  • Be friendly to parents of the opposition.
  • Do not publicly question the referee’s decisions.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse.
  • Recognise and value the importance of coaches.

Above all, do not use foul and abusive language or bad behaviour.

Team Tactics - Matters relating to team tactics are the sole responsibility of the coaches. They should not be publicly criticised by players, parents or non participants.

Team selection - Will be decided by the coaches and selectors.

Players performance - Judgements of players performances are the perogative of the selectors and coaches. Shows of public disapproval should never occur.

Discipline - All matters relating to team and individual discipline on and off the field are the responsibility of the team manager and coaches. This includes players behaviour off the field (which can includes school) and when travelling to and from matches.

Changing rooms - The changing rooms will be out of bounds to parents pre and post match, unless directly invited in by the team manager and coaches. This is to allow the coaches to gain the players individual attention.

Players Role - Players responsibility to contact team manager regarding availability.

Grievance Procedure  - If you feel you have a grievance with your respective squad, you must inform the team manager in writing within 7 days of the incident/event occurring. The team manager will respond, in writing, within 7 days acknowledging receipt of the complaint.  The team manager will endeavour to deal with the complaint within 11 days of the original complaint.  However, if you feel that your complaint has not been dealt with sufficiently and the aforementioned process has been exhausted, it then becomes an issue for the WRU senior development officer, whose decision is final. Failure to comply with any of the above could result in a player being removed from the squad.
